Clean & Green Forum
Speakers:
Bruce Anderson - CEO of Wilson Turbopower
Robert Day - Principle of @Ventures
Jackie Isaacs - Associate Professor at Northeastern University
Richard Feldt - President & CEO of Evergreen Solar
Bruce Anderson;
Wilson Heat Exchanger: reclaims waste heat in industrial flues,
reduces emissions by 50% with a 1.5 year pay-back on the cost of the
unit. Made of honeycombed Ceramic.
Wilson Microtube: Enabled by the above unit, uses waste heat to
run turbine. Very small, 12" diameter and 80-90% energy efficient when
used with Heat Exchanger.
"[the technology is easy, making a successful product is the hard part]"
Richard Feldt;
Evergreen Solar; "Greenest company in the industry," manufactures solar
wafers, cells and panels. 1 panel can create approx. 200 volts of
electricity.
Evergreen uses an alternate method that eliminates "Kerf Loss" or waste
that is produced when blocks of silicon are cut down into wafers.
Instead they grow the silicon wafers using carbon-string draws that rise
out of a liquid silicon mix at 22 millimeters per minute and allow the
crystals to grow as they rise. This method halves the production cost of
the solar panels, lowering the price.
Currently they are in the process of opening the new Devens Faculity,
which is planned to be operational by midsummer of 2009.
Robert Day;
@Ventures; clean-tech venture capital company. They invest in small
start up companies with high growth potential. For example, out of 400
companies, they pick 4. The ideal is that they can find companies that
are making products that the world really needs and still have promise
in terms of financial return on the investment.
Jackie Isaacs;
There are many different applications/definitions of sustainability in
different fields.
