EaSM Project Activities

May 11- 16, 2014 Dr. Zhang attended the DOE’s Integrated Climate Modeling PI meetingPotomac, MD.
She presented a poster on Multi-Year Simulation of Aerosol Indirect Effects using
WRF-CAM5 with Improved Aerosol‐Cloud‐Precipitation Representations
She also met two project co-PIs, Drs. Ruby Leung and Jiwen Fan at the meeting and discussed
the next step of work for our project.  See photo
Jan. 27-29, 2014 Dr. Zhang attended the 2014 Annual NSF/USDA/DOE EaSM PI Meeting, Jan. 27-29, 2014, Washington DC. She had two oral presentations and two posters on our NSF/USDA EaSM project and DOE EaSM project. She also met two project co-PIs, Dr. David Streets, ANL, and Dr. Ge Sun, USDA at the meeting to discuss our current and future work as well as upcoming proposal development activities.
Nov 12-13, 2012

The 3rd Semi-AnnualEarth System Modeling (EaSM) Project Meeting was held successfully at NCSU. A total of 20 project team members and visitors/collaborators attended the meeting. The four co-PIs for the NSF/USDA sponsored EaSM and one co-PI for the DOE-sponsored EaSM each gave a presentation on project progress for respective technical areas and work plan for next project year.  All other participants including four post-D researchers, nine graduate students, one visiting Professor, and one visiting student presented their research work, see photos

July 9-11, 2012 Three co-PIs (Yang Zhang, David Streets, and Ge Sun), two post-D researchers (Fang Yan and Kai Wang), and one graduate student (Jian He) attended he 2012 NSF/USDA/DOE Annual Earth System Modeling Project Meeting, July 9-11, Arlington, VA (see Photo).  Dr. Yang Zhang represented the project team to gvve two oral presentations and two posters at this meeting.
June 18-21, 2012

Dr Shuai Zhu, a post-Doctoral researcher from AQFL, presented a poster entitled Incorporation of a New Gas-phase Mechanism and its Coupling with Aerosol Modules in CESM/CAM5 at the 17th Annual CESM Workshop in Breckenridge, CO. Tim Glotfelty (a PhD student), from AQFL, attented the 17th Annual CESM Workshop in Breckenridge, CO

May 23- August 10, 2012 Tim Glotfelty (a PhD student), from AQFL, visited NCAR under Advanced Studies Program (ASP) Fellowship in Boulder, CO. His research focuses on completing the NUDAPT implementation into WRF, mapping urban canopy parameters to local climate zones in the WRF model, and other aspects of fine scale modeling.
May. 17-18, 2012 The Semi-Annual Earth System Modeling (EaSM) Project Meeting was held successfully at NCSU. The four co-PIs each gave a presentation outlining project progress for respective technical areas. A total of 19 project team members attended the meeting, see photos1, photos2.
Oct. 12, 2011 The Earth System Modeling Project Kickoff Meeting was held successfully at NCSU. The four co-PIs each gave a presentation outlining objectives and scope of work for respective technical areas.  A total of 21 project team members attended the meeting, see photos.
Sept. 29-30, 2011 Dr. Shuai Zhu, a team leader of our Earth System Modeling Project, offered two tutorial sessions on NCAR's Community Earth System Model (CESM) to our group members. All the project team members attended and gained some hands-on experience on CESM.
Sept. 12-17 A training workshop was conducted in Kigali, Rwanda by Ge Sun, Steve McNulty, and Erika Cohen, USDA-FS to train users for the WaSSI model.  Over 40 participants from 15 African countries attended this workshop.
Aug. 23-26 A training workshop was conducted in Raleigh, NC, USA by Ge Sun, Steve McNulty, and Erika Cohen, USDA-FS to train users for the Water Supply Stress Index (WaSSI) model.  Four participants from Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia, and the U.S. who are employees of the World Wildlife Society attended this workshop.
Aug. 1-5, 2011 Dr. Shuai Zhu attended the CESM tutorial held in National Center for Atmospheric Research, Boulder, CO.
