Flexibility

Our master’s programs have electives and concentrations, as well as a thesis option, while some PhD programs have tracks. Students can choose research areas and experiential learning opportunities that align with their interests. An interdisciplinary PhD program is also available. Select programs are offered part-time, online or in hybrid formats.

Graduate Certificates

A Graduate Certificate is another way for students to personalize their path with a specialization in an area of their choice. Over 15 graduate certificates are available. Certificates can be taken in addition to or in combination with a master’s degree, or provide a pathway to a master’s degree in Northeastern’s College of Engineering. Certificates are also available for PhD students. Students should consult with their faculty advisor regarding these options.

Locations

Programs are offered in Boston, Massachusetts—known for high-tech, biotech, and academia—and some are also offered in innovation hubs across Northeastern’s global network in the U.S. and in Canada.

Protecting Sensitive Data

ECE Associate Professor Aatmesh Shrivastava and Nikita Mirchandani, PhD’22, electrical engineering, were awarded a patent for “High efficiency power obfuscation switched capacitor DC-DC converter architecture.”

Cell Nuclear Force Probe Reveals Mechanomemory That May Impact Cell Memory and Health

BioE Professor Ning Wang published research in Cell Reports that demonstrates a process of mechanomemory, or response long after applied force has ceased, within a cell’s nucleus. This discovery prompts a prolonged period of activation of a protein complex responsible for gene expression, which can lead to making new proteins and potentially healthier cells.

Robotics Student Awarded Amazon Robotics Day One Fellowship

Oscar De La Garza, MS’25, robotics, is participating in an internship at Amazon Robotics as part of being named one of just seven students awarded the 2023 Amazon Robotics Day One Fellowship. The fellowship supports emerging leaders in science from backgrounds underrepresented in STEM, awarding scholarships, mentorship, and career opportunities.

Using AI To Save Lives on the Battlefield

Liam McEneaney, MS’25, engineering and public policy, is working with ECE Associate Professor Sarah Ostadabbas and MIE Teaching Professor Beverly Kris Jaeger-Helton, and in collaboration with MIT Lincoln Lab, to develop an AI-powered computer program that will accurately and quickly fill out tactical combat casualty care cards for injured soldiers on its own on the battlefield by processing video and audio from medics in real time, and quickly sending the digital card to hospital staff.
