She received the NSF Career award in 2015 and in 2018 she was the advisor of one NSF GRFP awardee and one who received honorable mention.  Prior to joining Northeastern\, she was an Assistant Professor at the School of Informatics and Computing at Indiana University (2009-2011)\, a Research Assistant Professor at the Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago (2006-2009)\, and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University (2004-2006). She received her PhD from Princeton University in 2004. \nYasmeen Farra is a 3rd year Bioengineering PhD candidate in Dr. Chiara Bellini’s lab. She was awarded the NSF GRFP in 2019.  Her research examines cardiovascular disease associated with inhalation of harmful fine particles from a biomechanical perspective. Beyond the lab she is passionate about effective science communication and the positive influence science can have on policymaking. She is first author on a publication (currently under review) with a second on the way and several works in progress. \nAndrew Karas serves as Associate Director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships. He brings a range of classroom and administrative experience to the role\, having most recently worked in the University of Pennsylvania’s Career Services office.
