Transcript of BioE Chair Lee Makowski’s Remarks

Hi, I’m Lee Makowski, Chair of Bioengineering

And I just want to take a moment to wish you the very, very best as you move out into the world beyond Northeastern.

I’m often asked what I want to see most in a student.

I tell people I want students who are fearless.  Not, ‘let’s cross Huntington Avenue blindfolded fearless’, but intellectually fearless.  Willing to take on any challenge.  Students who, rather than being intimidated by the tallest mountain, strategize about how to ascend its slopes and then start up the trail….

And there are no more challenging times than these…

I would like to believe that during your time here at Northeastern we have provided you with some of the tools you will need to negotiate the hurdles, the obstacles ahead.

Believe in yourselves. Believe in one another.  Be thoughtful. Try to make a difference.

Try to make a dent in the huge challenges facing us all.  It won’t be easy.  But you are the future.  You hold in your hands – in your energy, your vision, your insight, the keys to open the door the future.

We are all depending on you.  There’s a lot to do….   Go for it.

I wish you the very, very best.  Go out and change the world.

Good luck!
