Chemical Engineering PhD Student Earns U.S. Department of Energy SCGSR Award

Lawrence Ajayi, PhD’27, chemical engineering, has received a U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Award to advance his doctoral research at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Advised by ChE/COS Assistant Professor Damilola Daramola, Ajayi earned the highly competitive national honor in recognition of his outstanding academic accomplishments and the merit of his research proposal.

His project, “Automated Discovery of Critical Elements from Heterogenous Samples using X-ray Spectromicroscopy,” leverages advanced imaging and automation to identify crucial materials within complex structures. The SCGSR program prepares doctoral students for critical manufacturing and energy careers by providing access to the world-class facilities and expertise found at DOE national laboratories.
