ECE Professor Raymond Fu Receives 3 Year $450K Navy Grant
ECE Associate Professor Yun Raymond Fu has received a new Navy grant for his research topic, “Pinpoint Geolocation using Multi-Source Multi-Dimensional Big Data from Social Media.” The $450K grant will be for the next three years.
This research works toward automatically discovering geographic locations (latitutde and logitude) based on social media information. Recent geolocation research successes have focused on non-visual data, but pinpointing a specific location given the “big data” challenges of social media is still extremely difficult. Professor Fu’s work will generate a toolset that can be used by intelligence analysts to quickly and easily formulate geographic locations from large-scale, multi-source, and multi-dimensional social media data.
