MIE alum Mohsen Tehrani, PhD’21, and Professor Surendra M. Gupta’s paper titled “Designing a Sustainable Green Closed-Loop Supply Chain under Uncertainty and Various Capacity Levels” was featured on the cover of the June 2021 issue of Logistics.

Cover Story: The growth in the volume of end-of-life (EOL) tires, together with the legislative and environmental concerns, has increased interest among companies to design sustainable green closed-loop supply chains (CLSCs). A CLSC is a network with a holistic view of the entire forward and reverse logistic system with the goal of moving EOL tires upstream from the end users to facilitate reuse, repair, remanufacturing or recycling. CLSC network design is subject to a variety of uncertainties that can be random and fuzzy. This paper focuses on the design and development of a multi-objective, multi-product, multi-echelon, multi-cycle, multi-capacity, sustainable green CLSC network under hybrid uncertainties. A robust fuzzy stochastic and mixed integer programming technique is applied to a case study in the tire industry to design such a CLSC network. The method is widely applicable across other industries. View this paper.
