Professor Martinez-Lorenzo Earns Award at the European Conference on Antennas and Propagation

Professor Jose Martinez-Lorenzo, jointly appointed to MIE & ECE, received the Best Antenna Design and Applications award at the European Conference on Antennas and Propagation for his paper “Hematologic Characterization and 3D Imaging of Red Blood Cells using a Compressive Nano-Antenna and ML-FMA Modeling.”

Professor Martinez-Lorenzo’s coauthors on the paper are Hipolito Gomez-Sousa (Post-Doc at NEU), and Oscar Rubinos-Lopez (University of Vigo Spain).

Out of 1200 entries, Professor Martinez-Lorenzo’s paper was selected as the winner.

The paper is based on the idea for performing imaging at optical frequencies in-vivo using a novel “Compressive Nano-antenna,” which could potentially be mounted in a nano-robot. This is the first imaging system that moves the compression of the information from after-the-ADC into the physical layer using a Multi-coded Compressive Antenna, beating any traditional compressive sensing imaging system and making it the first of its kind.

Congratulations to Professor Jose Martinez-Lorenzo.
