Principal Investigators

Roberto T. Leon, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

Roberto T. Leon received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1983. From 1983 to 1994 he was assistant and associate professor in the Department of Civil and Mineral Engineering at the University of Minnesota, and from 1995-2011 was a professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He joined the Via Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University as the David H. Burrows Professor of Engineering in 2012. He is a member of the AISC Committee on Specification, the BSSC Provisions Update Committee, and of several technical committees on steel and composite construction. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI/ASCE). He is a registered professional engineer in Minnesota, the co-author of a book on composite construction, a non-technical book on bridges and tunnels, and is the author and co-author of over 60 articles in refereed journals.

Jerome F. Hajjar, Northeastern University

Jerome F. Hajjar is Professor and Chair at Northeastern University. He was Professor and Narbey Khachaturian Faculty Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign between 2005 and 2010, where he served as Chair of the Structures Faculty. Between 1992 to 2005 he was Professor at the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, he was a structural engineer and Associate with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in New York and Chicago. He received his BS from Yale University and his MS and Ph.D. from Cornell University. His research interests include computational analysis, experimental testing, structural stability, and design of steel and composite steel/concrete structures. He is also a registered professional engineer in Illinois and Minnesota.
