The general purpose of the station is manyfold:

  1. To provide an opportunity to gather and disseminate valuable seismic ground motion data from small as well as from less frequent moderate earthquakes in the region.

  2. To understand the soil amplification effects of deep deposit of clays and specifically the dynamic response of the Boston Blue Clay which will be useful in preparing microzonation maps for the region.

  3. To heighten the earthquake awareness of the professional community and the public in the region.

  4. To support our educational and research programs in earthquake engineering.

  5. To educate and stir the interest of elementary and high school students in the field of engineering.
