Want to be our Student speaker at the Grad Celebration?

We are inviting a graduating senior to make a 5-minute address at the COE Graduation Celebration. All students who have registered to attend the April 30th ceremony may apply.

If you are interested in being the student speaker, please complete this form by Monday March 9th at 3:00PM. Please note, that you will need to upload the following attachments to the form:

  1. Resume (.PDF only)
  2. Typed speech (Word file only; document must be 3-5 pages double-spaced, 12-point Times font, 1” margins)
  3. A link to a video presentation of your speech that is no longer than 5 minutes (the video should be recorded keeping in mind the formality of graduation and the momentous occasion it is – dress and act as if you were on stage, and choose an appropriate setting)
  4. Short Bio about yourself ( Word document, 3-5 sentences, written in the third person)

Please take the following into consideration when creating your speech:

  • What works well: references of common experiences; future hopes for the graduating class; universal themes as experienced by undergraduate-level Northeastern students; humor
  • What to avoid: references that are personal and specific to you; a generic speech that would apply to any institution; comedic monologue; personal ideological speeches (i.e. political or moral views)
  • What to remember: the speech will be heard by family and friends of all the graduates and should be one that will be appreciated by all.

Submissions will be reviewed by the Student Speaker Selection Committee.  Applicants will be informed of the results in late-April.  All speeches and videos are submitted with the understanding that they may be posted on university-related websites and/or used in university-related publications.

Please email any questions or concerns.
