How This Alum Built the “Amazon” of the Medical Device World
Northeastern mechanical engineering alum Katie Karmelek, E’06, MS’08, a Women Who Empower Innovator Award Fellow, co-founded Chamfr, an online marketplace known as the “Amazon for medical device R&D components,” to help engineers quickly source vital parts for prototyping and manufacturing.
Sternad and Krotov Win Best Conference Paper Award at BioRob 2026 for Whip Control Study
COS/ECE University Distinguished Professor Dagmar Sternad and Aleksi Krotov, MS’20, PhD’26, bioengineering, won the Best Conference Paper Award (Second Place) at the IEEE RAS/EMBS 11th International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics (BioRob 2026) in Edmonton, Canada for their paper “Hitting a target with a whip: The center of mass as a simplified internal model to control the whip,” which will be published in IEEE Transactions in Medical Robotics and Bionics.
