Join the Graduate Women in Science and Engineering (GWiSE) virtual book club to discuss The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. Henrietta’s cells, or HeLa cells, pioneered great scientific and medical discoveries such as treatments for cancer, polio, influenza, and AIDS. Meanwhile, her story and contributions are unknown and uncompensated.

Please sign up for our book club by filling out this form to be included in biweekly discussions concerning each part of the book. There will be 4 meetings in total. We will discuss the books in 3 parts.

The first meeting will be Wednesday, July 22nd at 6 PM focused on introductions and preliminary book discussion. No reading necessary for the first meeting! The first part discussion items will be emailed on Sunday, July 26th, and will be discussed on Wednesday, August 5th on MS Teams at 6 PM. The second part discussion items will be emailed on Sunday, August 9th, and will be discussed on August 19th on MS Teams at 6 PM. The third part discussion items will be emailed on Sunday, August 25th, and discussed on Wednesday, September 2nd, on MS Teams at 6 PM.
