Patents: Relationship Status- It’s Complicated | Love Data Week

Patents can be an important source of research data, often the only place some technologies are detailed. They form a network of technical knowledge that shows the history of invention and can be a springboard for new technologies and innovation.
As an introduction to patent data, in this workshop students will learn:
- Where to look for patents
- Tips and tricks for searching for patents
- How to follow patent citation networks to see how technologies evolve and connect
We’ll close with a Mystery Patent Reveal game using real patent diagrams and descriptions of high tech, ridiculous, and unexpected patents!
