Transcript of Associate Dean Susan Freeman’s Remarks

Hello and Congratulations!  I am Sue Freeman, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the College of Engineering. Today marks the completion of a major milestone in your life’s journey and the start of your next exciting chapter as a Northeastern Engineer.

It is often said that nothing good comes easy. As you think back at your time here in the college, I’m sure there were times when you felt the coursework was difficult. We’ve all had those days. Becoming an engineer Is hard. What kept you going, in addition to the support from family, friends, faculty, and advisors, was your dream of becoming an engineer.

I am so excited to say, You did it! As a graduate of Northeastern’s College of Engineering, you have completed a rigorous, experiential, and multidisciplinary program designed to give you the knowledge, skills, and experience to address problems, contribute to society, and change the world for the better.

It seems like yesterday when the Class of 2020 began the first-year engineering program here at Northeastern. First, you learned what engineering was and explored majors. Do you remember? Then you built foundational knowledge with the core curriculum. And then… you flourished. You took risks by spanning out from your comfort zones. By doing so you discovered individual passions and charted your path to achieve your personal aspirations. Whether you chose to do research, take global trips, participate in student competitions, gain experience on co-op, or take on leadership positions in student clubs—along the way you transformed personally and professionally.

I know I speak for our faculty and administration when I say how much we enjoyed seeing you learn, grow, and transform over the years. Graduating as a Northeastern Engineer is quite an accomplishment, and you and your loved ones should be very proud. We will miss you and hope you will stay in touch with us. We would like to know how your journey continues and we look forward to having you continue as an active member of our alumni family. I am a Northeastern Alum in Industrial Engineering.  Welcome to the family.

Again, congratulations and best wishes for a bright and successful future.
