Transcript of CEE Chair Jerome Hajjar’s Remarks

Hello everyone, my name is Jerry Hajjar and I’m the chair of the Department of civil and environmental engineering here at Northeastern University, and on behalf of the faculty and staff in the Department, I would like to congratulate each of you who are graduating from our department. We are happy to celebrate your outstanding accomplishments in our program. To our bachelor’s students, what an exciting time it has been. We hope that you have truly enjoyed your experiences here and I’m sure there have been many experiences. And love the energy, enthusiasm, and excellence that you have each put into your work and life here at Northeastern. To our master students, we know how hard you have worked in your courses and for many of you in your research and wish you the best to take your great knowledge and skills into the workplace for your career. And to our PhD students, we are so proud of your outstanding accomplishments and commitment to our field and indeed to yourself. This is a singular achievement and great milestone in your life. A milestone, really like no other, and we applaud you for your innovation and perseverance in making a major contribution to our field. For all of you, whether you are going into academia, into government, into industry, we wish you the very best and we’re here to help you every step of the way. Northeastern is and always will be your academic home. And you should always feel free to reach out to us as in the future. We also know that the last few weeks have been especially challenging for everyone, and we hope that you and your families are safe. We know that this virtual world makes it a little tougher to say goodbye. To say goodbye to each other, to say goodbye to us. But today is not goodbye because we will stay in touch with each of you because now you are our colleagues. Northeastern is a special place because of you, and because of what you have done in our program in the last few years. So, class of 2020, the faculty and staff are so proud of your work. So proud of your integrity. So proud of your leadership. So proud of you. Thank you for your great work in our program, thank you for choosing Northeastern and our department. Congratulations to you all and go Huskies.
