Monday, June 29th marked the first day of the 2015 Young Scholars Program and the Research Experiences for Teachers at Northeastern University! This summer we are welcoming 28 local high school students and several local teachers on campus for summer research experiences in engineering and science labs.
On Monday the participants heard from faculty and students in each lab, learned about lab safety, reviewed campus safety with NUPD, and were introduced to their lab and projects. They spent the afternoon in their labs and started learning right away! On Tuesday, they will learn about keeping a lab notebook in their morning homeroom session before going to their labs for the day. On Wednesday, their homeroom session is about writing the perfect college essay, and they will attend their first weekly brown-bag lunch session to watch presentations from Northeastern’s Computer Architecture Research Group’s undergraduate researchers. On Thursday, the students will participate in an on-campus field trip involving engineering activities, a trip to the shake table, and a campus-wide scavenger hunt!
