The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is pleased to announce that an anonymous alumnus has established the CEE Faculty Seed Research Fund with a leadership gift in the hope of inspiring other alumni to contribute in support of the research of the CEE facultyThe annual income from the fund will support innovative and groundbreaking research in the department.

The alumnus states: “I wanted to make this gift in gratitude to the Department for its impact on my engineering career. Experiential learning at Northeastern helped me to develop skills in creativity, innovation, and formulating practical steps for implementation. Also, during my engineering career, I had opportunities to network with Northeastern professors, and I developed a stronger appreciation for the role of research in fueling engineering education. I hope this gift will be a vehicle for additional support from other alumni who want to contribute to new research efforts.”

Jerry Hajjar, CDM Smith Professor and Department Chair, welcomed the gift as the latest example of the strong connection between the department and its alumni. “Our alumni community has been exceptional – both in their achievements in industry and academia post-graduation.  They have been committed to helping the next generation of students succeed,” said Prof. Hajjar, pointing as well to the department’s yearly dinner and awards reception as well as the philanthropic initiatives of the Northeastern University Civil Engineering Alumni Organization (NUCEAO). “Generous gifts like these help the department drive forward its mission of advancing innovative civil and environmental solutions for society and creating globally-oriented engineering leaders by integrating experiential education and use-inspired interdisciplinary research.”
