CEE at the 2014 SEI Structures Congress

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and colleagues from Northeastern University had a strong presence at the 2014 SEI Structures Congress that took place in Boston in April. Northeastern students and faculty were involved in nearly every major event and had over 15 presentations, including Tim Love, Professor in the School of Architecture, in the final keynote address, “The Structural Challenges of Dense High-value Cities.” Professor Mehrdad Sasani, undergraduate Elisa Liviginston, and alumnus Craig Barnes were members of the SEI Local Planning Committee. Craig Barnes was also the recipient of the best paper award. CEE undergraduate students participated in the CANstruction competition, a national charity event for hunger relief that donates cans used to build structures to local food banks following the competition. The team’s structure “Defeating Despicable Hunger,” replicating a minion from the popular movie Despicable Me, won the Best Use of Labels Award. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering also held a networking reception that was attended by over 200 participants of the SEI Structures Congress.
