CEE Student Wins ACEC Scholarship

Katelyn Gendron, E’22, civil engineering, structures concentration, was awarded a $5,000 ‘Small Firm Coalition Scholarship’ by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) earlier this year along with nine students for her remarkable contribution.

Gendron was initially interested in structures as a young child when she spent hours playing with Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs. She had an eye for estimating the best ways to keep them intact and stable. This passion for building and designing supported her eventual decision to pursue a career in structural engineering.

“I aim to create a more sustainable infrastructure since I understand how sustainable infrastructure can benefit its users, providing a clean and healthy place to live. One day I hope to develop a better-functioning and more sustainable community which society can thrive off of, and make a positive impact for our generation and for the ones to come,” said Gendron.

This scholarship is of immense value. It has motivated her to continue her education and accumulate industry knowledge through various co-op experiences and sustainable projects, with the hope that she can make a lasting difference in the community.

Gendron is also the recipient of other awards such as the ASHRAE Boston Chapter- Cheryl Rossini Future Engineers Scholarship, ACEC/MA Education Corporation Scholarship, WTS Boston Sharon D. Banks/Jacquelyn R. Smith Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship (2019), and the James F. Haley Scholarship.
