CEE Students Win COE Outstanding Co-op Awards

Kelly O’Connell, E’16 and Audriana Ossenberg, E’16 were honored at a May 4th lunch celebrating COE co-op awards.  The COE Co-op Awards are presented to students who were selected by co-op faculty in recognition of their professional development and achievements resulting from their co-op experiences.

Kelly O'Connell, Civil Engineering

1st Co-op:  Barletta Engineering Corp, Canton, MA

2nd Co-op:  Environmental Partners Group, Quincy, MA

3rd Co-op:  Energy and Resource Solutions, North Andover, MA

Kelly O’Connell received national recognition when she was selected by the American Society of Engineering Educators as the Co-op Student of the Year for 2016. Her co-op career has been varied, including work as a general contractor, a water resources consultant, and an energy sustainability professional. Kelly forged an interdisciplinary engineering path at Northeastern, starting with a foundation in civil engineering, and bridging into mechanical engineering to bolster her credentials for a career in the energy industry. A globally-minded individual, Kelly has been heavily involved with Engineers Without Borders. She traveled to Uganda twice to work on water projects, and has held several leadership positions culminating in President, where she oversaw projects in Uganda, Honduras and Panama and was responsible for an annual budget of over $100,000.

Audriana Ossenberg, Civil Engineering

1st Co-op:  BKF Engineers, Redwood City, CA

2nd Co-op:  URS Corp. (now AECOM), San Francisco, CA

3rd Co-op:  Haley & Aldrich, Walnut Creek, CA

Audriana is a motivated, organized and determined engineer. She is a pleasure to work with, and took charge of her co-op career from the very start of her sophomore year. Audriana developed her own co-op jobs for all three of her work semesters. She was tireless in her pursuit of creating new opportunities,, building and expanding her professional network in the San Francisco Bay Area, and paving the way for younger students to follow along in her wake. She also managed to complete her Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering within her planned five years of study, without sacrificing a co-op semester. She has been singularly focused on the environment during her time at Northeastern, and was one of the founding members of a now thriving student group, New England Water Environment Association. If all of our students were like Audriana, the Co-op Coordinators could all retire tomorrow.

Congratulations and we wish them the best of luck as they step into the next phase of their professional careers.  We are proud to share in their accomplishments.
