ChE Students Present at AAASPD

ChE masters students (exchange students from Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Spain) and a ChE PhD student had a wonderful opportunity to present their research at AAASPD’s (The American Association for the Advancement of Science – Pacific Division) 99th Annual Meeting in Pomona, California.

Please see below for a list of each student and his or her presentation topic:

  • David Medina Cruz
    Synthesis and characterization of biogenic selenium nanoparticles with antimicrobial properties made by Staphylococcus aureus, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 
  • Lorena Baranda
    The synthesis and characterization of bimetallic nanoparticles made by bacteria for biomedical applications. 
  • Miguel Angel Alvarez
    The synthesis of metallic nanoparticles using human healthy and cancerous cells for biomedical applications. 
  • Ada Vernet
    A novel approach for the synthesis of metallic nanoparticles on top of a tellurium nanowire using a green synthesis approach for biomedical applications. 
  • Claudia Isern
    The efficient and cost-effective removal of heavy metal ions from water using nanoparticles produced from both bacterial biomass and living bacteria.

In addition, our Department Chair, Professor Tom Webster, was the last author in all of these works. Some of these projects are published, while others are in the works of being published.
