Developing Network Management and Optimization Expertise
On a co-op at Charles River Development, Kunal Bhoyar, MS’24, information systems, built a foundation in network management that he expects will apply to a range of career options as he moves forward.
Kunal Bhoyar, MS’24, information systems, completed a co-op at Charles River Development, a State Street company, where he rolled up his sleeves and got things done, including the successful management of the company’s network infrastructure and cloud integration.
From troubleshooting network issues to configuring systems for the development and quality assurance (QA) teams, he was able to help maintain smooth and secure communications between on-premises data centers and the cloud via Azure, a Microsoft cloud platform.
One of the highlights of Kunal’s co-op was his work on a project involving network security and integration challenges. He configured and managed switches, resolved connectivity issues between data centers and the cloud, and addressed network bottlenecks that hindered performance.
Kunal used automated monitoring tools to troubleshoot security threats and address potential issues before they impacted the company’s operations. His work enhanced both the security and reliability of Charles River’s network infrastructure, allowing critical processes to function without disruption.
Throughout his co-op, Kunal deepened his expertise in managing network devices, analyzing security logs, and implementing automation tasks that streamlined infrastructure monitoring. One of his proudest moments was resolving a persistent network latency issue affecting communication between the cloud and internal infrastructure.
By automating scripts and diligently analyzing logs, he not only pinpointed the problem but also implemented an efficient, long-term solution, highlighting the importance of security-conscious, proactive management in maintaining system stability.
Because of Kunal’s efforts, the development and QA teams were able to rely on a more stable network, which boosted their productivity. His contributions also supported the company’s broader goals of reliability and efficiency.
Reflecting on his academic journey, Kunal credits the MS in information systems coursework, particularly Network Structures and Cloud Computing, for equipping him with the foundation to thrive in his role. His classroom experience gave him the confidence to tackle the challenges he encountered and effectively manage complex network environments.
His co-op experience has fueled his passion for network infrastructure, automation, and security and he is excited to explore new and more advanced networking challenges. His goal is to continue building his expertise and contribute to projects that push the boundaries of network and cloud technology.
Kunal says he also benefited from a comprehensive approach to learning that emphasized problem solving. In addition to developing expertise in networking technologies, he also developed an understanding of the broader principles of networking, cloud security, and integration.
