Erin Dillmann, BS and MS in Civil Engineering, recently received the Adopt an Undergrad Scholarship from the New York State Association of Traffic Engineers. The award is given to qualified students pursuing an Engineering degree in the fields of design, construction or maintenance of public works.

Dillmann, from Fishkill, New York, is pursuing a combined bachelor’s and master’s in civil engineering with a structural concentration at Northeastern University. She enjoys working on building projects and is fascinated by software that aid in design and analysis of civil infrastructure. Her ability to analyze complicated problems has been the driving force behind her choice to study civil engineering. “It is amazing to point to a structure and say ‘I worked on that!’” Dillmann stated. “I chose to major in civil and environmental engineering because I love finding solutions to challenges, which is what engineering is all about.”

Dillmann has completed a diverse set of co-ops during her program, covering many facets of construction management, consulting, design, and rehabilitation at Jacobs Engineering, BuroHappold Engineering, and Simpson, Gumpertz, & Heger. Her co-op placements have enabled her to work with industrial professionals on exciting projects and utilize software for design of structural systems. Over the past two years, she has also won multiple awards – an ACEC/MA Education Corporation Scholarship and an ACEC National Scholarship in 2018, and the NUCEAO Award in 2019.

Excelling beyond academics, she is also a member of Northeastern University’s Club Running team. She actively participates in recreational activities, particularly hiking, biking, swimming and skiing in the winter.
