Northeastern’s Engineers without Borders chapter was selected for the 2019 Premier Chapter Award from EWB-USA. This award recognizes one student chapter each year who exemplifies EWB-USA’s mission through efficient organization, effective fundraising, and an engaged student body. The group has recently worked on projects in Guatemala, Panama, and Uganda.

This is the second time Northeastern’s EWB has won this prestigious award, having first been selected in 2014. This year’s selection saw them chosen from a total of 163 student chapters. In 2010, student chapter presidents Ann Polaneczky and Matt Walsh were honored as EWB Emerging Leaders, and in 2015 former co-op coordinator Dan Saulnier was awarded the EWB-USA Peter J. Bosscher Faculty Advisor Award for Outstanding Leadership.

“We are extremely grateful for this award and proud of our students who have worked hard over the past year to contribute to our partner communities in Guatemala, Panama, and Uganda,” said civil and environmental undergraduate student and EWB-USA NEU president Peter Botticello in a statement announcing the award. Some recent projects the team has completed include design work on a school building in Guatemala, and developing water resource distribution systems in Panama and Uganda.

While the work of the group and many of its members have a strong civil and environmental engineering focus, Northeastern’s chapter is large and interdisciplinary, with more than 100 student members from many majors. Listed below are the officers, advisors, and mentors for this year’s cohort.
