Freshman Engineering Spaghetti Bridges

The Assignment

Students in small groups visited various bridges around the Boston area. They studied the bridge in terms of it's function, objective, constraint, service environment, etc. After analyzing the bridge they proposed changes and modeled them using AutoCAD and other software. Finally they designed bridges made from spaghetti that would withstand a real simulated earthquake in the shake lab.

Observing real world problems in Boston's infrastructure, students were able to propose solutions in the classroom and had fun testing their designs!
