Information Systems Program Shaped Student’s Career Aspirations

Ashutosh Vinod Dwivedi, MS’25, information systems, earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Mumbai, graduating with departmental honors. He began his professional career as an equity analyst at Motilal Oswal and later worked as a data analyst at Godrej & Boyce, gaining hands-on experience with large-scale data systems and analytics. He chose to pursue a master’s degree at Northeastern University because of the school’s unique, curated courses and career-advancing co-op program.

Ashutosh Vinod Dwivedi chose Northeastern University for its strong integration of data engineering, analytics and its industry-aligned co-op program. Courses such as “Advanced Database Management Systems”, “Data Engineering” and “Machine Learning” played a key role in shaping his decision.

The curriculum strongly aligned with Dwivedi’s professional aspirations by blending technical depth with practical application. Courses, as well as professors, in data engineering and big data analytics made a significant impact by bridging academic concepts with real-world projects.

Dwivedi secured a co-op at Dell Technologies in business intelligence, where he designed ETL pipelines, automated reporting, and developed dashboards including LTB, EOL, and NPI. These tools supported lifecycle and procurement decisions across global teams. His automation pipelines reduced manual effort by over 300 hours annually, improving efficiency and enabling informed decision-making across engineering, procurement and planning teams. The co-op program proved to be the most valuable part of his journey, with mentors like Victor and Tony at Dell guiding him through supply chain analytics and automation projects.

Projects and Innovations
Dwivedi during his time at Northeastern led two projects, including a motor vehicle crash analysis. In this project Dwivedi processed over 1 million records using Alteryx and built dashboards to identify accident hotspots. Additionally, Dwivedi built a financial market data pipeline. For this project he designed an Airflow and Python ETL pipeline to automate market data processing. He tackled challenges with large, unstructured datasets by optimizing queries and workflows.

Outside of the Classroom

Dwivedi actively participated in data-focused hackathons and collaborative projects, where he enjoyed applying classroom knowledge to solve real-world problems. One highlight was developing dashboards for accident analysis to help city planners improve safety measures. Northeastern’s project-based curriculum and faculty mentorship gave him the confidence to implement innovative solutions in these competitions.

Future Perspective

Dwivedi aspires to become a data-driven strategist and business intelligence leader, leveraging data to optimize supply chain and operational decision-making. He emphasizes that Northeastern’s curriculum and co-op experience have been instrumental in shaping his professional trajectory by bridging academic learning with industry application. His work at Dell further reinforced his passion for data engineering and business intelligence.
