Jung Awarded $100K NSF Grant

Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Assistant Professor Yung Joon Jung has been awarded a 3-year grant from NSF to develop ultra-high performance carbon nanotubes for use in extremely narrow interconnects. 

The research of Jung's Lab focuses on investigating new synthetic routes for low dimensional nanomaterials and engineering their molecular structures. They also develop nanomanufacturing processes such as assembly, transfer and integration of nanomaterials and nanostructured architectures and study underlying fundamental science. They are also very interested in sp2 carbon nanostructured materials such as nanotubes, graphene, nanostructured graphite, and extremely narrow silicon nanowires and their assemblies that have well-defined atomic structures.

Ongoing projects are developing nano-sensors for chemicals, optical and ion detection, highly conductive and mechanically enhanced nanocarbon networks and fibers, and multifunctional and high performance energy storage devices. Their works are in the areas of material science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and solid-state physics.
