Landherr Serves as Co-programming Chair for National AIChE Conference

Lucas Landherr

ChE Teaching Professor and Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies Lucas Landherr served as the Co-Programming Chair for the Annual Meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers this week in Boston.  Working to coordinate events over the last year and a half, Landherr helped to arrange the plenary talks delivered in conjunction with the meeting’s theme of “Building the Bridge in 21st Century Education”.  The meeting was held over two weeks for the first time to meet both in-person and virtual needs, making it a particular challenge for coordination and planning.

In particular, Landherr was responsible for coordinating AIChE’s inaugural IDEAL session recognizing the professional society’s efforts and commitment to achieving greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in chemical engineering through the IDEAL path (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-Racism, and Learning).  Landherr had worked to update the society’s DEI statement as an operating council chairperson and had successfully pitched the update to their Board of Directors in 2019, which helped lead to the IDEAL session held during the meeting.  Northeastern’s Senior Vice Provost Karl Reid delivered the opening presentation at the session, entitled “From Pledges to Practice: Turning Commitments into Action to Create More Inclusive Institutions”.
