New Faculty Spotlight: Ozan Ozdemir

Ozan Özdemir joins the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering department in August 2021 as an Assistant Professor.

Dr. Özdemir is an academic with a background in metal additive manufacturing, compressible flows, multiphase flows, heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics, nondestructive testing, and failure analysis. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2017. His doctoral dissertation focused on the design and efficiency of powder propulsion systems in the emerging cold spray metal additive manufacturing technology. During his prior studies at South Dakota State University, he supported academia and industry in failure analysis through a variety of destructive and nondestructive testing methods. Dr. Özdemir is currently leveraging his experience in multidisciplinary fields for the advancement of the cold spray technology as an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Northeastern University in Boston. Dr. Özdemir’s independent and collaborative work has been high yield and has resulted in the publication of twelve journal articles in a short period of time with over 250 citations, a pending patent, and thirteen appearances in international conferences. He has co-edited and co-authored a textbook entitled Practical Cold Spray that was published in June 2021. Furthermore, Dr. Özdemir also serves as an active member of the scientific community as a member of the Training Subcommittee of ASM International’s Thermal Spray Society and serves as a reviewer for periodicals such as the Journal of Thermal Spray Technology and Coatings. He co-edited the proceedings of the 2021 International Thermal Spray Conference and was a keynote speaker at the 2021 Cold Spray Action Team Meeting.
