New Faculty Spotlight: Yinnian (Andy) Feng

Yinnian (Andy) Feng

Yinnian (Andy) Feng joins the bioengineering department in January 2026 as an Assistant Professor.

His general research interests lie in pioneering a new field: mechanoimmunology. He received his PhD in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering from Vanderbilt University in 2018, focusing on T-cell mechanoimmunology using optical traps. He completed his postdoctoral training at Stanford University, where he invented advanced microfluidic platforms for high-throughput T-cell mechanoimmunology. He then transitioned to Merck, where he gained valuable industry experience translating theoretical research ideas into practical clinical applications. At Northeastern, his lab focuses on decoding how immune cells sense mechanical forces using microfluidics—and how this knowledge can be transformed into therapy.
