Northeastern Electric Racing Wins 2nd Place
The Northeastern Electric Racing team placed 2nd in the all-electric vehicle category at the 2022 Formula Hybrid+Electric Competition, their first in-person competition after having spent the past 5 years building our first-ever vehicle and competing virtually the past 2 years. Northeastern Electric Racing is a student organization that designs and builds an all-electric formula-style race car to compete against other universities from around the world. They also won the inaugural Scrutineer’s Award in Honor of Suzanne Royce for being the most prepared team and having the best engineering documentation. FH+E created this award in honor of Suzanne Royce, a dedicated volunteer and the first and only female Formula 1 Chief Scrutineer.
Northeastern Electric Racing entered this year’s competition as a rookie team with our very first vehicle. Our all-electric formula-style race car features a custom accumulator with fully in-house designed and fabricated battery packs made by our team. Our car can accelerate from 0-60mph in an estimated 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of over 100 mph. Although it took more than 5 years of hard work, we secured a spot as one of the best teams at competition with our first fully-finished car!
