PhD Student Attends Climate Week in New York City

Aayushi Mishra, PhD’28, interdisciplinary engineering, in Northeastern University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the inaugural Lizzy Warner Fellow, recently attended Climate Week NYC. This year’s Climate Week was the largest to date, bringing together over 100,000 attendees.

Aayushi participated in events focused on climate risk and financial markets, including an exclusive discussion at the New York Stock Exchange on the future of climate-aligned investment and adaptation finance for a second year in a row. “It was a pleasure to join experts in the climate finance sector at this discussion facilitated by Dr. Evan Kodra, PhD ’18. These discussions significantly inform my ongoing research at the intersection of physical climate risk and U.S. municipal finance, especially at a time where responsibilities are increasingly shifting to state and local governments”.

She also attended events at Columbia University, her alma mater, where she heard from professionals working on national and international adaptation planning. Throughout the week, Aayushi met notable changemakers working in insurance, credit markets, and government to exchange perspectives on how academic research can better inform practice.

In addition to her research, Aayushi is currently co-instructing CIVE 5363: Climate Science, Engineering Adaptation, and Policy with COE Distinguished Professor Auroop Ganguly, who is also her research advisor at the Sustainability and Data Sciences Laboratory (SDS Lab).

“Climate Week has left me invigorated by seeing thousands of contributors committed to addressing a global challenge that touches everyone yet does not impact everyone equally – something I refer to as the ‘Great Inequalizer.’ I look forward to building on these valuable insights in my research and teaching.”
