Restuccia Wins ISSNAF Mario Gerla Award

The ISSNAF — Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation — has selected Francesco Restuccia, Associate Research Scientist with the Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things to receive the 2019 Mario Gerla Award for Young Investigators in Computer Science.

The award is given in memory of Prof. Mario Gerla, a former Italian Professor at the Department of Computer Science at UCLA and a pioneer in computer networks, who passed away in February 2019 after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer.

The ISSNAF yearly presents highly-competitive awards in 5 disciplines (Computer Science, Medicine, Leukemia, Engineering, Mathematics) to acknowledge the research of young Italian investigators working in North America, whose commitment to their discipline of study is innovative, impactful and honors their country of origin.

Francesco presented his research work during the 2019 ISSNAF Annual Event on November 14th, 2019 at the Italian Embassy in Washington, DC. He also received a $3,000 monetary award and the Medal of Representation of the Italian President of the Republic.
