Electric Racing at Northeastern University
Northeastern Electric Racing (NER) is a student-run undergraduate organization dedicated to designing, building, and competing an all-electric, Formula-style race car from scratch. The team is composed of mechanical, electrical, software, and business sub teams, going studies the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines while tackling engineering challenges.
Through hands-on experience, NER equips members with skills in computer-aided design (CAD), electrical circuit design, machining, and software development. Beyond technical training, the team fosters growth in project management, leadership, marketing, finance, and more.
NER competes annually in two SAE Collegiate Design Series competitions: Formula Hybrid + Electric in Loudon, New Hampshire, and Formula SAE Electric in Brooklyn, Michigan. The team earned 3rd place in the Electric Vehicle class at the 2025 Formula Hybrid + Electric competition and is looking forward to continually improving at the 2026 competitions.
