Shawn Williams is the Battery and Materials Thesis Leader for RE:BUILD Manufacturing. RE:BUILD is unlocking a new model for American manufacturing that combines human-centered design, advanced engineering, and modern manufacturing to unlock the full potential of U.S. industry. RE:BUILD solves complex, multidisciplinary challenges spanning product development, operations, and full lifecycle support to help its partners build smarter, scale faster, and thrive long term. Currently, under Shawn’s leadership, RE:BUILD is a partner of Northeastern University (NU) conducting design for manufacturing under a US Navy contract for new technology developed to the prototype stage at NU’s Kostas Research Institute (KRI). RE:BUILD expertise in design and manufacturing could also aid spin-out companies from NU research labs in partnership with NU’s Center for Research Innovation. Shawn sits on the board of directors of ROW Global and OWP Pharmaceuticals. He is an advisor to Fourier CMC, an NU spin-out company, and Leeta Materials. Prior to joining RE:BUILD, Shawn was the CTO of A123 Systems and Northeastern’s KRI. As KRI CTO, Shawn was responsible for leading the Technology Team in KRI as well as for developing and realizing the Institute’s growing technology platform. Prior to joining the Kostas Institute, Shawn served as the VP of R&D at Rogers from 2013-2020. Before joining Rogers, Shawn briefly worked as the Senior Manager for Advanced Technology, at Greene, Tweed. From 2004-2012, Shawn was the VP, R&D at Plextronics, Inc., and from 1995-2004, Shawn served in various technical and operational roles at the global specialty chemical provider, W. R. Grace & Co. He has over 30 years of experience in developing and managing materials technology. Dr. Williams holds a BS in Chemistry from Geneva College and a PhD in Chemistry from Carnegie Mellon.
