Community Advocate Award
This award recognizes an individual or team in the College of Engineering who are faculty and/or staff (with students as collaborators). The Community Advocate Award is established to recognize extraordinary accomplishments in achieving the College goals of fostering a community of Belonging, which values, celebrates, and benefits from varied backgrounds, communal differences, and individual experiences within the College and beyond our campus.
Eligibility
- All faculty and staff in the College of Engineering are eligible.
- Past recipients are not eligible for a period of three years after receiving the award.
Qualifications
- The award will be based on a demonstrated commitment to community advocacy – fostering a variety of perspectives, mutual respect, and meaningful engagement. The award will be based on a sustained record, rather than a single act of service, project, or event.
- For faculty, this commitment will have been expressed through a combination of research and creative activity; teaching, mentoring, or curriculum transformation; and/or professional service.
- For staff, this commitment will have been expressed through service to the College, University, local community, and/or beyond.
Nomination and Selection Process
Nominations may be initiated by College of Engineering staff, faculty, and/or administrators. Once the nomination process has concluded, the respective department chair for each faculty nominee or manager for each staff nominee will be contacted to complete a Recommendation Form before all materials are sent to the appropriate Awards Committee for evaluation.
- For any staff nominees: The Staff Selection Committee, made up of representatives from all departments, will conduct a review before making recommendations to the Dean of the College for final selection.
- For any faculty nominees: The Faculty Selection Committee, made up of COE leadership and previous recipients of the award, will conduct a review before making recommendations to the Dean of the College for final selection.
The nomination packet should consist of ONE pdf file submitted through the Nomination Form below (multiple submissions for the same nomination will not be accepted) containing the following:
- A detailed statement from the nominator indicating the nominee’s accomplishments and how they relate to the selection criteria for the Community Advocate Award
- Two brief supporting letters addressing the nominee and how their accomplishments embody the selection criteria for this award.
- Faculty nominee’s most recent resume or CV (not required for staff nominees).
