Redefining an Engineering Career with an MS in Cyber Physical Systems

Jeffrey Machyo, MS’23, cyber physical systems, decided to shift gears to the embedded systems field when he was working as an electrical engineer at an electric power company in Kenya. At Northeastern, he completed a co-op at Desktop Metal, which gave him hands-on experience with programable devices and set him up for a successful career change.

Engineering student Sari Finn created JoyVine, which is a community-centric search engine that serves to provide young adults with a fulfilling, faith-based community. The platform serves to connect individuals to Christian communities based on their geographical area, providing a space for them to cultivate their relationship with God in a like-minded community.

Searching for a Cure to Cancer on Co-op

The three co-op experiences and capstone project of Jessica Chen, E’24, bioengineering, has solidified a love for cell culture and the cellular parts of bioengineering. She had co-ops at Gentuity, a medical device company; Ensoma, a biotech company; and through the CaNCURE program at Northeastern, that places undergraduate students in cancer nanomedicine positions in Boston.

Creating a Roadmap to Global Opportunities

After completing an undergraduate degree in mathematics in her home of New Delhi, Ishpreet Kaur Sethi, MS’23, data analytics engineering, came to Northeastern’s College of Engineering to earn a master’s degree and maximize the co-op experience by working as a data analyst at the UK-based Alchemab Therapeutics. Now she is poised to pursue global opportunities.

Xavier Hubbard, MS’23, robotics, completed a co-op at Venca Robotics and conducted research as part of his master’s project. Academics, combined with the experiential learning and job experience, helped him land a job as a robotics engineer at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

Bioengineering Education and Experiences for a Career in Cancer Research

Luke DeMarco, E’24, bioengineering, is interested in a career in cancer research. He’s had two co-ops in the area of immunotherapy and cancer research, including at biotech startup Catamaran Bio and at Northeastern conducting research in a faculty member’s lab. He also went on a Dialogue of Civilizations to Italy and has applied for a Fulbright Scholarship to conduct research in Germany.

Seizing the Power of Experiential Learning

Kaden Du, E’25, electrical and computer engineering, is taking full advantage of the experience-powered education at Northeastern. So far, he has conducted research in a faculty lab on energy efficient circuits and systems, worked on co-op on circuit board design and programming, joined the Generate student-led product development studio, and went on a Dialogue of Civilizations to Tanzania.
