Using Robots to Help Blind and Deaf People Communicate
Samantha Johnson, E’21, ME’21, bioengineering, built a robotic hand that can be used to produce tactile sign language so that people who are blind and deaf can be more independent.

MIE Research Selected as Editor’s Choice of Physics of Fluids
A research paper, titled “Flexural Bending Resonance of Acoustically Levitated Glycerol Droplet” by Zilong Fang, PhD’22, mechanical engineering, and MIE Professors Kai-Tak Wan and Mohammad Taslim was selected as the Editor’s Choice and published in the journal of Physics of Fluids.

Josep Jornet Awarded Best Paper at the IEEE WoWMoM 6G Non-terrestrial Networks (NTN) Workshop
ECE Associate Professor Josep Jornet received the Best Paper Award at the IEEE WoWMoM 6G Non-terrestrial Networks (NTN) Workshop, for the work titled “Performance Analysis of a Dual Terahertz/Ka Band Communication System for Satellite Mega-Constellations”, led by his students Ali Al Qaraghuli, PhD’24, and Hussam Abdellatif, PhD’24.

Nature Materials Article on PGM-free Catalyst for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell
Li Jiao, PhD’21, chemical engineering, currently working in Affiliated Faculty Sanjeev Mukerjee’s research group, was published in Nature Materials for “Chemical vapour deposition of Fe–N–C oxygen reduction catalysts with full utilization of dense Fe–N4 sites,” developing a model catalyst with scientific breakthroughs and practical significance.
