Mars Rover Team Takes Third at International Competition
A Northeastern University student team was a finalist in the University Rover Challenge of The Mars Society, where they placed in the top three at the competition. They competed in Utah with 39 teams from around the world against schools like the University of Michigan, Cornell, as well as teams from Japan, Bangladesh, Turkey, and more.

AI Tool To Prevent Electronic Health Record Outages During Blackouts
Isaac Premkumar, MS’26, data analytics engineering, and Ishan Chaudhary, MS’26, data analytics engineering, received a Microsoft Open Source AI Hackathon judge’s choice award for MedQGraph, an AI-integrated tool to store and analyze medical records so they can be retrieved even when electronic health record systems are down.

Northeastern Students Create VR Controls for NASA’s SUIT Competition
Northeastern’s SEDS club developed a mixed reality system for controlling lunar rovers as part of NASA’s SUITS competition. Collaborating with a University of Michigan team, they created VR interfaces that could enable efficient remote operation of robots for future moon settlements.

Students Win First Place at UK National Unibots Competition
The London Northeastern Robotics Club secured first place in the 2025 National Unibots Competition held at the University of Cambridge, besting 10 other teams with its robot that incorporated a vacuum motor, which gave it an edge against its competitors.

Lunabotics Team Builds Lunar Robot for Collegiate Space Mining Competition
Northeastern’s Lunabotics team will present its lunar robot this month at the Iowa State Collegiate Space Mining Competition. The team launched last fall to expand the reach of the university’s chapter of Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS).

A Northeastern University student team won first place at the MassRobotics Form & Function Robotics Challenge, receiving the $10,000 grand prize. They competed against 16 teams from universities across the globe.

Graduate Student Team Wins First Place at National Geothermal Competition
At the 2024 Geothermal Collegiate Competition, organized by the Department of Energy, the Husky Heat Harvesters team of students from the Northeastern University Energy Systems Society won first place in the technical track and an honorable mention for the best video.
