NSF CAREER Award To Advance Multi-Agent Network Optimization Foundations
MIE Assistant Professor Shahin Shahrampour was awarded a $515,000 NSF CAREER grant for “Foundations of Scalable, Fast, and Online Decentralized Manifold Optimization in Multi-Agent Networks.” The project takes a substantial step toward the development and adoption of decentralized manifold optimization in large-scale, multi-agent optimization. Manifold optimization is instrumental in control and engineering applications.

Mars Rover Team Takes Third at International Competition
A Northeastern University student team was a finalist in the University Rover Challenge of The Mars Society, where they placed in the top three at the competition. They competed in Utah with 39 teams from around the world against schools like the University of Michigan, Cornell, as well as teams from Japan, Bangladesh, Turkey, and more.

Summit Explores Complex Risk Science
A one-day invitation-only summit event titled “Boston-Area Complex Risk Science: Exploring new Frontiers and a New Community for Understanding Risk,” was held on June 9, 2025, at Northeastern University. Summit sponsors included CEE Distinguished Professor Auroop Ganguly, who leads Northeastern University’s Sustainability and Data Sciences (SDS) Lab, as well as the Institute for Experiential AI, AI for Climate and Sustainability (AI4CaS), and Ryan McGranaghan, research scientist and data scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
