Zeenia Singla, MS’23, information systems, had a co-op as a risk analyst at Adage Capital Management. She attended Northeastern because she believed it would help her improve personally and professionally. Her classes and professors helped her learn and apply many concepts; courses that focused on analytical skills were her main focus. In class, she learned about US industry norms for employee profiles and LinkedIn. She learned how to communicate her ideas effectively and successfully to prospective employers during interviews. “Northeastern gives every husky a holistic learning environment to succeed in life. My co-op advisor, Jessica Fisher’s consistent coaching and encouragement fueled my drive to bag a co-op and emerge stronger when disappointed,” adds Singla.

Singla used her expertise and class conversations to succeed at every opportunity. She began her co-op at Adage Capital Management, a portfolio investment hedge fund, on July 6, 2022. It analyses portfolio risk and optimizes client ROI by making smart investment decisions. Her internship involved risk analysis of 25 portfolios. “I am working on increasing the data analysis for 20 years’ Prime Broker loan data and establishing a system wherein automation of these data analysis reports can be done,” Singla says when reflecting on her own data analytics coursework.

Her drive and self-direction as a data analyst have helped her complete projects and automate monthly risk reporting in VBA and Python. Singla also created a central data repository for 20 years of broker lending data and intuitive Tableau dashboards to examine lending trends. For her analytical duties, Singla has learned Python, VBA, Excel, SQL, and Tableau.

Singla wants to work as a Data Analyst/Scientist for a Fin-tech company, boosting efficiency and using her analytical talents to make key decisions that will benefit the organization. She wants to broaden her automation views and work values. “I feel I can use data and do miracles,” she says. I use data to create efficient risk analysis and business optimization methods.
