Building a Sustainable Future through Global Education

During his fellowship, FYE Teaching Professor Bala Maheswaran embarked on a month-long project at ATINER in Athens, Greece, where he researched the theme of global education. As a result of his efforts, he delivered a presentation to visiting educators from Georgia State University and submitted a paper to the Athens Journal of Education, addressing the pivotal theme of “Building a Sustainable Future through Global Education.” The focal point of his work aligns closely with UNESCO’s objectives but focuses specifically on the global education of engineers and what engineers can contribute as global citizens.

Within the paper, Maheswaran introduces an interesting concept – a course titled “Global Education for Engineers.” This beneficial curriculum is designed to equip engineering students with the essential knowledge, skills, and perspectives needed to thrive in an interconnected global landscape. His advocacy extends to recommending the integration of this course into undergraduate education across colleges and universities, promoting a holistic approach to engineering education that aligns with the demands of our interconnected world.
