CEE SDS Lab Member off to NASA

COE undergraduate Matthew Mage, MIE’20, has recently accepted an exciting opportunity to co-op at NASA’s esteemed Ames Research Center. He will work as a research co-op at the NASA Earth Exchange performing super-resolution on satellite imagery using deep machine learning. After completing the college’s Climate Dialogue offering last summer, Matt began work in the Sustainability and Data Sciences (SDS) lab alongside his TA, PhD student Udit Bhatia. This led to further work with PhD student Thomas “TJ” Vandal. Through TJ’s connections from his time at NASA and seed funding, the pair were able to get NASA’s attention for their work in deep learning in climate and earth sciences, among other fields. NASA has since given Matt the official internship offer.
