Landherr Receives AIChE Grant to Create Comic Learning Tool
Chemical Engineering Distinguished Teaching Professor Lucas Landherr has received a $3.5K grant from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Foundation to create a comic learning tool for high school seniors and first-year college engineering students.
In order to help promote and explain chemical engineering to interested students, Landherr will develop a multi-page comic explaining the breadth and depth of the field, covering materials-driven chemistry, bio-focused drug delivery and drug discovery, electrochemistry-centered battery production, environmental remediation, food science, computational modeling, and more. The comic will be supported through AIChE’s Doing a World of Good Campaign and will be provided to both high school and college students, as Landherr investigates the impact of formal and informal visual learning on student motivation and retention.
This grant will support the current research being conducted by Northeastern ChemE student Ira Hysi (class of 2024) in collaboration with Landherr, as they work with a professional artist in the production of the comic for use at institutions throughout the country.
