LSAMP Scholars Participate in International Research in China

Richard Harris, assistant dean and director, and Hameed Metghalchi, professor of mechanical and industrial engineering, are co-leading a $3.5 million five-year National Science Foundation grant in collaboration with five other universities from the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation; an alliance of six universities in the Northeast region of the U.S. where students are designated LSAMP Scholars and offered opportunities in academic bridge programs, peer mentoring, networking events, research opportunities, conferences and seminars related to STEM, and international research activities. As part of the international Research Experiences for Undergraduates program funded by the NSF grant, seven Northeastern engineering undergraduates participated for the first time in international research experiences in Shanghai China at Shanghai Jiao Tong University from July 5 to August 20, 2017.  All of the Northeastern students were rising sophomores, who were participants in the 2016 Summer Bridge Program as incoming freshmen.
