About
Emad Aboelela received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Miami, Florida, USA in 1998. His M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Computer Engineering were received from Alexandria University, Egypt in 1990 and 1993 respectively. He is an ABET Commissioner for the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) since July 2022 and an ABET Program Evaluator since June 2013. He is a senior member of both IEEE and ACM.
Since 1999, Dr. Aboelela has been a faculty member of both computer engineering and computer science departments in the following universities: Northeastern University (2017-present), Taibah University (2007-2017), University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth (2001-2007), and Southern Connecticut State University (1999-2001). He is currently the Vice Chair for Undergraduate Education in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northeastern University where he is also a Full Teaching Professor.
Dr. Aboelela teaches a wide range of computing courses including Computer Organization and Architecture, Digital System Design with HDL (Hardware Description Language), Embedded Design, Computer Networking, Computer Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, and Operating Systems. His areas of research include Wireless Sensor Networks, Internet of Things, Embedded Systems, Quality-of-Service for Multimedia Networking, and Computer Networks Management and Design.
Dr. Aboelela was the Principal Investigator of many funded research projects in the USA and Taibah University (Saudi Arabia). He was the principal investigator of the Net-SEAL project funded by NSF. His work has appeared in several journal publications and has been presented by him in prestigious conferences. Dr. Aboelela is the author of “Network Simulation Experiments Manual”, Morgan Kaufmann Publishers (3rd edition was published in 2011). The manual has been chosen to accompany the 3rd, 4th, and 5th editions of the well-known computer networking textbook “Computer Networks: A Systems Approach”, Morgan Kaufmann Publishers, 2003-2011.
