Dr. Svetlena Taneva Metzger is an adjunct faculty member at Northeastern University, with an illustrious career that spans over two decades in user experience design, cognitive engineering, human factors engineering, and the design of healthcare applications and medical devices. She earned her PhD/Dr. Sc from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). Before joining Northeastern, Dr. Metzger played a pivotal role as a Senior Specialist in User Experience, Human Factors, and Patient Safety at the University Health Network, Canada’s largest hospital network.

As a recognized authority in her domain, Dr. Metzger’s expertise shines through her numerous contributions to both academia and industry, particularly in the healthcare sector where she has left a significant mark on improving patient safety through systems design. At Northeastern, she instructs courses such as CSYE 7280 – User Experience Design & Testing and CSYE 7374 – User Experience in Healthcare Applications. Beyond her achievements, Dr. Metzger is a devoted educator, passionate about imparting knowledge on the transformative power of user experience, guiding students towards realizing the abundant potential of UX in shaping their professional futures.
