About ECC

Help can be provided during the lab hours listed below in 268 Snell Engineering by our staff of Program Assistants.

If you need assistance, please email help@coe.northeastern.edu.

Having an account on the COE system is a privilege, not a right. Please read the Engineering Computer Center policies and procedures. By using the system, you agree to abide by this policy.

Computer Center Labs

To meet the academic needs of our students and faculty, the Computer Center supports several labs with thin clients or Windows workstations. The Engineering Windows environment, WINCOE, is available in 268 SN and varying academic department labs. Both the WINCOE and Linux graphical environments are available through the COE virtual lab.

Using COE Windows

To use a COE Windows machine or VLAB thin client, log on with your COE username and password. (COE usernames do not have a dot in them.)

Logins protect the security of our system and enable you to have access to Engineering resources such as networked storage space, backups, and course directories. On WINCOE, your data is stored in your home directory on the COE system. You can save a file in your “My Documents” directory, and it will be there the next time you log on. Your data is safely backed up on tape to protect it against accidental corruption or deletion. Your Unix home directory appears as the “Z:” (cifs.homedir) drive on a WINCOE computer.

Software stability is very important for our students and faculty. On WINCOE, you should find the software you need for Engineering and general use. The stability of these applications has been improved by not installing every application needed by every other college in the university.

If you need help with WINCOE, or if you need a software package that is not presently installed, please send a message to help@coe.neu.edu.

Student Jobs

Each semester, the Engineering Computer Center hires Part-Time student workers to support COE public labs and ECC staff members. This is a great way to learn, earn and help other students. You may obtain additional information by sending email to eccstudenthiring@coe.northeastern.edu.
